The stages of a report
- Received: we have your report and someone has read it.
- Under review: we are assessing the information and the risks.
- Being verified: we are checking the information against evidence.
- Referred: we have passed it to another body that is better placed to act, where that is safe and you agree.
- Investigating: it has become an investigation. See our investigation methodology.
- Published or closed: we have published a story, or we have decided not to go further. Where we can, we tell you why.
We do not always tell you every step, and we may not be able to share details that could put someone at risk.
