Corrections Policy
How Power Lens corrects mistakes, and the public log of every correction.
We will get things wrong sometimes. What matters is how quickly we admit it and how clearly we fix it.
Our policy
Errors are corrected quickly and visibly. We never quietly change a published story to hide a mistake.
We use four types of notice:
- Correction: a factual error has been fixed.
- Clarification: the original was accurate but unclear or incomplete.
- Update: new information has come to light after publication.
- Retraction: the story could not be supported by the evidence and has been withdrawn, with the reasons given.
How we correct
- We check the report of an error against the evidence.
- We decide which type of notice applies.
- We fix the text, data, image or caption.
- We add a notice at the top of the page with the date and a plain description of what changed.
- If we shared the story on social media or in a newsletter, we share the correction in the same places.
- We tell the person or organisation affected, if there is one.
- We add the correction to the log below.
What we do not do
We do not delete stories to hide mistakes. In rare cases we may remove or limit material for legal or safety reasons, and where we can, we say so publicly.
Report an error
Contact us and tell us which page, what is wrong and what you believe the evidence shows. If you are not satisfied with our response, see our complaints policy.
