Report a Human Rights Violation
Tell us about a violation of human rights: detention, torture, disappearance, violence or restrictions on speech and assembly.
Use this form to report a violation of human rights. This includes arbitrary arrest or detention, torture, enforced disappearance, extrajudicial violence, and restrictions on freedom of expression, press freedom or assembly.
Before you begin
- Immediate danger. If someone is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services first: [TO ADD: local emergency numbers].
- The person affected. Wherever possible, tell us whether the person affected knows that you are reporting and agrees. We will take great care not to put them at risk.
- Support. [TO ADD: legal aid and support organisations you can refer people to]
What helps us most
- What happened, when and where.
- Who was affected, and who was responsible.
- Whether there are witnesses, medical records, court papers or other evidence.
If you are at risk, do not use this form. Use the whistleblower portal instead. It is built for sensitive information.
What happens next
Every report is read by a person. We assess it, check it against evidence, and decide what to do, as set out in our investigation methodology. We cannot investigate every report or promise a result, but we read all of them. Your identity is protected under our source protection policy, and we handle your details as described in our privacy policy.
If you gave us a way to reach you, we may contact you for more information. If you chose a code word, you can ask about your report later.
